A Broken Frame

Recorded at Blackwing Studios in London between December 1981 and July 1982 as a trio following Vince Clarke's sudden departure, A Broken Frame was written entirely by new songwriter Martin Gore, who mixed older teenage compositions with fresh, more experimental material like 'Monument' while touring musician Alan Wilder was deliberately excluded from sessions so the band could prove it hadn't simply replaced its main songwriter.
