Recorded at The Lodge in Suffolk in February 1987 with producer Bill Buchanan, Fields of the Nephilim's debut opened with a lifted Ennio Morricone harmonica theme and built out a self-styled 'spaghetti-metal' sound around Carl McCoy's dust-caked, Sergio Leone-inspired image, setting the template for the flour-and-leather strain of British goth that followed.
