Recorded across mid-to-late 1984 at Strawberry Studios in Stockport and Genetic Studios in Reading with producer David M. Allen, Andrew Eldritch's only album with the classic Sisters of Mercy line-up of Gary Marx, Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams cost an estimated £40,000 to make and became gothic rock's definitive full-band statement before the group's acrimonious split later that year.
