Released May 17, 1982 as the first album Lonnie Simmons put out directly on his own Total Experience label, Gap Band IV became the Tulsa trio's commercial peak, spinning off three top-40 R&B hits and giving hip-hop and G-funk producers decades of sampling material via 'You Dropped a Bomb on Me' and 'Outstanding.'
