Magical
Junko Ohashi · City Pop/Soul
Produced by Masaharu Honjo with Sai Ishida co-producing and Eiji Uchinuma engineering, Magical (subtitled Ohashi Junko no Sekai III) gathered Junko Ohashi's smooth, funk-and-soul-inflected city pop sound onto one LP for Philips Japan, its cover photographed against the World Trade Center towers in New York. The urban-groove single 'I Love You So' and the synth-boogie 'Telephone Number' (composed by Ken Sato with lyrics by Yoshiko Miura) later became favorites of the genre's international vinyl-collector revival, and original first-pressing copies of Magical now regularly change hands for $400-600, making it one of city pop's most sought-after and expensive reissue targets.
