New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84)
Simple Minds · New Wave/Synth-Pop
Produced by 20-year-old Peter Walsh (fresh off Heaven 17's Penthouse and Pavement) after he saw the band play a small gig in Liege, Belgium, Simple Minds' fifth album was written at Rockfield Studios and recorded at The Townhouse in London; its brighter, more cinematic synth-and-guitar sound and Jim Kerr's newly optimistic lyrics broke the band into the UK top 3 and directly influenced U2's The Unforgettable Fire.
