Please
Pet Shop Boys · Synth-pop
Recorded at Advision Studios in London, the debut re-recorded 'West End Girls' (originally cut in 1984 with Bobby Orlando as a minor club hit) with producer Stephen Hague, who slowed the tempo and added a filmic street-sounds intro; the new version topped both the UK and US charts in 1986. The album debuted at #3 in the UK and became Pet Shop Boys' highest-charting and only RIAA-platinum US release. Contemporary critics were often sniffy about its 'disco' production, but 'West End Girls' is now regarded as one of the most influential synth-pop singles of the decade.
