Released when Miki Matsubara was just 19, this debut album was built around the already-released single 'Mayonaka no Door (Stay With Me),' composed and arranged by prolific songwriter Tetsuji Hayashi, who also wrote Mariya Takeuchi's 'September' and Anri's 'I Can't Stop the Loneliness.' Hayashi later recalled he couldn't attend Matsubara's vocal session in person and was startled by how mature the teenager's voice sounded on tape. Largely unnoticed outside Japan on release, the song underwent an extraordinary second life after a 2020 TikTok-driven resurgence, topping Spotify's Global Viral 50 for 18 straight days, cracking Apple Music's J-pop top 10 in 92 markets, and passing 100 million YouTube plays -- turning Pocket Park from an obscure city pop debut into one of the genre's most recognized global entry points, four decades after its release.
