Toto IV
Toto · Rock/Pop
Recorded June 1981-January 1982 at Sunset Sound, Record One and Abbey Road with an unusually large budget, the band used up to three 24-track machines simultaneously to layer percussion and vocals on 'Africa,' co-written by David Paich after childhood UNICEF ads about Africa. The album swept six Grammys in 1983 including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for 'Rosanna,' and 'Africa' later climbed to #1 on the Hot 100 nearly a year after the LP's release. It is considered the peak of L.A. studio-rock polish; several Toto members went on that same year to play on Michael Jackson's Thriller.
