Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar) and Angus Young (lead guitar). After several lineup changes the band stabilised around Phil Rudd (drums), Cliff Williams (bass), and vocalist Bon Scott, releasing a run of hard rock albums through the late 1970s. Seven months after Highway to Hell (1979), Scott died of alcohol poisoning; English singer Brian Johnson was recruited as his replacement and the band recorded Back in Black (1980), one of the best-selling albums of all time, in tribute to Scott. AC/DC continued through the decade with For Those About to Rock We Salute You (1981), Flick of the Switch (1983), Fly on the Wall (1985), and Blow Up Your Video (1988).
