Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949, in Long Branch, New Jersey) is an American singer-songwriter nicknamed "the Boss," known for heartland rock infused with poetic lyrics and American working-class themes, backed primarily by the E Street Band since 1972. His 1980s output ranged from the acoustic solo album Nebraska (1982) to the blockbuster Born in the U.S.A. (1984), one of the best-selling albums of all time, produced seven top-10 hit singles. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and has won 20 Grammy Awards.
