Phil Collins (born 30 January 1951 in West London) is an English singer, drummer, and songwriter, best known as the drummer and later lead vocalist of Genesis and for a hugely successful solo career. His solo debut Face Value (1981) drew on his first marriage's breakdown, and he followed it with multi-platinum albums including Hello, I Must Be Going! (1982), No Jacket Required (1985), and ...But Seriously (1989), scoring hits like "In the Air Tonight," "Against All Odds," and "Sussudio." He became known for his distinctive "gated reverb" drum sound, influential across 1980s pop and rock production.
