English pop band formed in Sheffield, South Yorkshire in 1980, evolving out of the earlier electronic band Vice Versa. Fronted by the band's only constant member, vocalist Martin Fry, the classic lineup featured guitarist/keyboardist Mark White, saxophonist Stephen Singleton, and drummer David Palmer. ABC blended synth-pop with disco, soul, and rock influences under the 'new pop' banner of the early 1980s, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart with their Trevor Horn-produced debut The Lexicon of Love (1982), which spawned the hits 'Poison Arrow', 'The Look of Love', and 'All of My Heart'.
