1 album / credit record(s) · Hardcore Punk

American band formed in Washington, D.C. in 1976, initially as the jazz-fusion act Mind Power before switching to hardcore punk in 1977 and taking the Bad Brains name (from a Ramones song title). Widely regarded as pioneers of hardcore punk, the classic lineup of Dr. Know (guitar), Darryl Jenifer (bass) and brothers Earl Hudson (drums) and H.R./Paul Hudson (vocals) also embraced reggae and Rastafari, fusing the two genres across their run of 1980s albums. Rolling Stone called them "the mother of all black hard-rock bands".
