American singer-songwriter born Robert Allen Zimmerman on 24 May 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, raised in Hibbing. A defining figure of 1960s folk and folk-rock who redefined songwriting with albums like The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde. After a 1966 motorcycle accident he explored country and gospel-inflected work; his early-1980s run included the Christian-themed Saved (1980) and Shot of Love (1981), before Infidels (1983), produced with Mark Knopfler as lead guitarist, marked a return to secular songwriting. He toured with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the Grateful Dead later in the decade and co-founded the Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty in 1988. Won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016.
