Trio brought together three of the era's most celebrated female voices in American music: Dolly Parton (b. 1946, Pittman Center, Tennessee), Linda Ronstadt (b. 1946, Tucson, Arizona) and Emmylou Harris (b. 1947, Birmingham, Alabama). Each had established major solo careers spanning country, pop and country-rock before teaming up for the collaborative album Trio, released March 2, 1987 on Warner Bros. Records and produced by George Massenburg. The album won a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, achieved platinum certification in the US, and sold around four million copies worldwide; a sequel, Trio II, followed in 1999.
