Eric B. & Rakim were an American hip hop duo formed on Long Island, New York, in 1986, pairing DJ Eric Barrier ('Eric B.') with rapper William Griffin Jr. ('Rakim'). They debuted with the single 'Eric B. Is President' / 'My Melody' (1986) before releasing their acclaimed debut album Paid in Full in 1987 on 4th & B'way/Island Records, which was certified platinum by the RIAA. Widely regarded during hip-hop's late-1980s 'golden age' as the premier DJ/MC team in the genre, they went on to release three more albums before disbanding in 1992.
