American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1979 by singer/harmonica player Huey Lewis (born Hugh Anthony Cregg III) and keyboardist Sean Hopper, both veterans of the Bay Area jazz-funk band Clover. Blending rock, R&B, doo-wop and blue-eyed soul, the group built a run of hits through the mid-1980s and became one of the era's top-selling pop-rock acts, anchored by 1983's multi-platinum Sports.
