American thrash metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine after his acrimonious dismissal from Metallica, quickly becoming one of thrash's 'Big Four' alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. Mustaine's technically intricate riffing and politically charged lyrics, showcased on 1986's Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, made Megadeth one of the genre's most virtuosic and enduring acts.
