English heavy metal vocalist born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Aston, Birmingham, England. Rose to fame as frontman of Black Sabbath before launching a solo career in 1980 with Blizzard of Ozz, co-written with bassist Bob Daisley and guitarist Randy Rhoads; the album went multi-platinum on the strength of "Crazy Train" despite no top-40 single. He followed it with the platinum Diary of a Madman (1981), cementing his identity as the "Prince of Darkness" of 1980s heavy metal. He died July 22, 2025, in Harefield, England.
