1 album / credit record(s) · Post-Punk
English post-punk group formed in London in 1978 by John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) with guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble and drummer Jim Walker, deliberately positioned as an anti-band 'company' rather than a conventional rock group. After Wobble's 1980 departure stripped away the band's signature dub bassline sound, drummer Martin Atkins joined for the stark, percussion-led The Flowers of Romance (1981), one of post-punk's most radical experiments. The band's lineup fractured repeatedly through the 1980s -- Levene left acrimoniously after 1983's Commercial Zone -- leaving Lydon as the only constant member through the decade's later, more commercially-minded PiL albums.
