Canadian progressive rock power trio formed in Toronto in August 1968 by guitarist Alex Lifeson, bassist/vocalist Jeff Jones (soon replaced by Geddy Lee) and drummer John Rutsey. After 1974 debut Rush, Rutsey was replaced by Neil Peart, locking in the classic Lee/Lifeson/Peart line-up that recorded every album from Fly by Night through the band's 2015 farewell, blending prog-rock virtuosity with tighter, radio-ready songwriting on records like 1981's Moving Pictures.
