The Fall were an English post-punk band formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, in 1976 by vocalist Mark E. Smith, who remained the band's sole constant member across dozens of lineup changes until its dissolution following his death in 2018. Known for Smith's caustic, sprechgesang lyrical delivery over an abrasive, repetitive guitar-driven sound, the band was championed by BBC DJ John Peel as one of his favourite acts. They released 31 studio albums between 1979 and 2017, including the highly regarded Hex Enduction Hour (1982).
