Blues-rock power trio from Houston, Texas -- Billy Gibbons (guitar/vocals), Dusty Hill (bass/vocals), and Frank Beard (drums) -- who spent the 1970s as a boogie-blues bar band before reinventing their sound for the MTV era with 1983's diamond-certified Eliminator, fusing their Texas blues roots with synthesizers, drum machines, and sequencers under engineer/producer Terry Manning at Ardent Studios in Memphis. The band's matching beards (Beard, despite his name, has never had one), sunglasses, and the recurring 'Eliminator car' hot rod became defining visual icons of their videos.
