Casiopea are a Japanese jazz fusion band formed in Tokyo in 1976 by guitarist Issei Noro and bassist Tetsuo Sakurai. After adding keyboardist Minoru Mukaiya and drummer Akira Jimbo, the band made their major-label debut with a self-titled album in 1979 and became one of the most successful fusion acts of the 1980s, releasing more than a dozen albums during that decade on the Alfa label. Their 1982 live album Mint Jams was named best album of the year by Japanese jazz magazines Adlib and Jazzlife and is regarded as a landmark of Japanese jazz-fusion.
