English singer, songwriter and actor born David Robert Jones on 8 January 1947 in Brixton, London (died 10 January 2016). Renowned for continual musical and visual reinvention, from the glam-rock Ziggy Stardust persona (1972) through the Berlin Trilogy (Low, "Heroes", Lodger, 1977-1979). Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) (1980) closed his RCA era at number one in the UK. He signed to EMI America and achieved his greatest commercial success with Let's Dance (1983), produced with Nile Rodgers, followed by Tonight (1984) and Never Let Me Down (1987). From 1988-1992 he fronted the hard rock band Tin Machine before resuming his solo career.
