Born Eric Lynn Wright on September 7, 1964, in Compton, California; founded N.W.A and its label Ruthless Records in 1986-87, reportedly bootstrapping the label with roughly $7,000-12,000 of his own money (accounts vary) to press "Boyz-n-the-Hood," which he ended up voicing himself after Dr. Dre convinced him to try rapping. As N.W.A's de facto financier and figurehead, he signed and released records for J.J. Fad, D.O.C. and Michel'le on Ruthless while releasing his own double-platinum solo debut Eazy-Duz-It (1988), produced by labelmates Dr. Dre and DJ Yella. He died of AIDS-related complications on March 26, 1995, shortly after publicly disclosing his diagnosis.
