Grace Beverly Jones (born 19 May 1948 in Spanish Town, Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica) is a Jamaican singer, songwriter, model and actress. Raised in a strict Pentecostal family, she moved to Syracuse, New York at 13, later studying theatre before beginning a modelling career with Wilhelmina Models and, from 1970, in Paris for photographers including Helmut Newton and designers such as Yves Saint Laurent. She signed to Island Records in 1977, and after a stretch of disco albums (Portfolio, Fame, Muse), reinvented herself with visual collaborator Jean-Paul Goude on the trilogy Warm Leatherette (1980), Nightclubbing (1981) and Living My Life (1982), fusing reggae, new wave, dub and funk into an androgynous, avant-garde style that influenced a generation of pop artists from Madonna to Lady Gaga. She also appeared in films including Conan the Destroyer (1984) and the James Bond film A View to a Kill (1985).
