Tatsuro Yamashita is a Japanese singer-songwriter and record producer born February 4, 1953, in Toshima, Tokyo, who began his career as a member of the band Sugar Babe before launching a solo career in 1976. His early-1980s work, especially 1980's 'Ride on Time' and 1982's 'For You', is now considered a cornerstone of the city pop genre, and he is frequently called the 'King of City Pop' in the genre's overseas revival. He is also known for his songwriting collaborations with his wife, singer Mariya Takeuchi.
