1 album / credit record(s) · Gothic Rock

English gothic rock band formed in Leeds in 1980 by Andrew Eldritch and guitarist Gary Marx, driven, in Eldritch's words, by wanting to hear themselves on the radio. Bassist Craig Adams joined in early 1981 and the band began using a drum machine nicknamed Doktor Avalanche in place of a human drummer; guitarist Wayne Hussey completed the classic line-up that recorded 1985's First and Last and Always on the band's own Merciful Release label before an acrimonious split later that year left Eldritch as the sole constant member.
