Anri's sixth studio album handed near-total creative control to fellow city-pop artist Toshiki Kadomatsu, who produced, arranged, played guitar and co-wrote most of the record while Anri herself wrote 'A Hope from Sad Street.' Lead single 'Cat's Eye,' re-recorded for the album as the theme to the hit anime of the same name, held Japan's Oricon singles chart at No. 1 for five consecutive weeks, and Timely!! itself topped the Oricon weekly LP chart and sold over 300,000 copies -- a commercial peak later critics (Chicago Reader) called 'a blueprint for the genre's aesthetic.' The Kadomatsu/Anri pairing became one of city pop's defining producer-artist partnerships, with Kadomatsu going on to produce several more Oricon No. 1 records for other artists off the strength of this collaboration.
