Pet Shop Boys are an English synth-pop duo formed in London in 1981, consisting of vocalist Neil Tennant and keyboardist Chris Lowe. The pair met by chance in a King's Road hi-fi shop in August 1981 and began writing songs together, drawing on disco, electronic music, and acts like Kraftwerk and the Human League. After early singles were produced with Bobby Orlando in New York, they signed to Parlophone in 1985, and their debut single "West End Girls" became a UK and US number one.
